7 Huge Perks of a Winter Wedding
Winter weddings have A LOT going for them. While it’s easy to understand why they’re often overlooked (hello plummeting temperatures!), we wanted to take a minute and share some thoughts about saying ‘I do’ outside of the peak season. There are so many benefits and possibilities with this - many of which our beautiful couples may not be aware of.
ONE - Zero humidity
No sweltering summer heat means minimal - if any - uncomfortable sweating. Your hair and makeup will definitely thank you, as will everyone who wears a suit on the day! Holding your ceremony and reception indoors and away from the unpredictable elements will also make wedding planning much less stressful. All biases aside, we think our Chapel and Barrel Room are romantic, beautiful and very versatile year-round. They take Mother Nature out of the equation too, so you won’t have to worry about exposing your guests to wind and rain.
TWO - Improved venue and vendor availability
Spring and summer are super busy! The quieter months, especially June and July, offer a lot more flexibility and mean you’ll find it a lot easier to secure everything and everyone on your wedding day wish list.
THREE - Wedding fatigue won’t have set in
Because spring and summer are usually jam-packed with weddings and other events, friends and family can feel overwhelmed and socially exhausted during the warmer months. A winter wedding, however, is likely to be the only (or one of the very few!) events that your guests have to look forward to in the middle of the year. Their calendars won’t be anywhere near as hectic and the ‘yes’ RSVPs will be flooding in.
FOUR - The unequivocal best lighting for photos
This is a bit of an industry secret… Winter couples typically have the most stunning wedding photos because the lighting is actually a lot better during the cooler months. There’s no awkward and unavoidable squinting that comes from bright sunlight, and the twilight shots overlooking our pretty vineyard are absolutely breathtaking. Dusk settles in earlier and its dreamy hues are just divine! Another bonus? It’s highly probable that you’ll get your wedding film back faster if you get married between June-August because your photographer won’t be as booked up and will have more time to devote to you.
FIVE - Cheaper travel and accommodation
Hotel and Airbnb stays often come with a hefty price tag when the sun is shining and school is out for the year. The chaos of summer also means that guests can be competing for limited booking availability. Winter weddings allow your loved ones to take advantage of off-season pricing for travel and accommodation though, which is a big win!
SIX - It’s something out of the ordinary
Winter weddings are simply different, and with this comes more room to be creative with your styling. It’s easy to stand out from a sea of blush-toned peonies during the cooler months - think crisp whites and muted greens for a timeless celebration, or mottled turquoise, charcoal, sage, deep burgundy and other rich hues for something moody and rustic. We love when our couples’ flowers, napery and other decor are inspired by the elements of the season.
SEVEN - The perfect time for an overseas honeymoon
Australian winters are European summers, which means June-August is the best time to tie the knot if you’re craving a sun-drenched holiday post-wedding. Positano, anyone?
