Co-owner Jade on all Things Wedding-y
Jade is at the heart of everything at Peppers Creek – creative, forward-thinking, and utterly obsessed with candles!
She’s taken a little time this summer to reflect on her extensive wedding industry experience and generously shared these musings below. The most impactful lesson she’s learned in her 20+ years working with couples? Balance is key! There is a lot of life to be had after the big day so making this event your sole focus and risking burn-out (and perhaps even alienating family and friends in the process) isn’t healthy or wise.
On the most important elements of any wedding
This might be a bit controversial, but marrying the right person for you is essential. There are several ‘red flags’ that I’ve commonly observed over the years when dealing with couples that truly make my heart sink. A wedding can be stressful at times, and seeing a partnership fall apart due to a lack of respect and solidarity during the planning stages absolutely kills me.
On deciding how much to spend and where
Money can be an emotional topic, and while there’s a bit of stigma (though wholly unnecessary!) around budgets, it really is best that your chosen vendors know yours early on so that they can point you in the right direction from the very beginning. There are many financial aspects to nut out for an event as special as a wedding as well - venue, catering, entertainment, photography, cake etc. - which makes understanding and communicating how much you are willing to spend extra important. As a florist and stylist, I’m obviously partial to all the beautiful aesthetic aspects, but I think continuing to ask yourself ‘Is this something that will enhance my vision for the day or dilute it?’ applies to most other planning areas, particularly when the options available becoming overwhelming.
On the biggest mistake couples tend to make during wedding planning
Taking on too much themselves! DIY can be a really creative and fun way to feel super involved in your wedding, but sacrificing sleep and quiet headspace to do it only ends up hampering moods on the day. Setting realistic expectations around tasks and timings is also crucial for vendors and family/friends who are helping out.
